A Day in the Life at King Street Center POV: Uriel, 3rd Grade
Here is a quick peek into a Day in the Life of Uriel, a 3rd grader here at King Street Center!
For Uriel, the day begins at Edmunds Elementary, where students and staff gather together and line up for our brisk walk down to King Street. It’s a chance to shake off the school day, connect with friends, and transition into the afternoon ahead.
Upon arrival, we’re greeted by familiar faces at the front door and check-in for attendance. In these in-between moments, there’s always conversation, like Shamgar sharing stories about his favorite dishes from Namaste Kitchen, a family-owned restaurant connected to one of King Street’s very own staff members.
Once everyone is settled, it’s time to head upstairs for a quick meal before moving into Boost time.
While not featured in the video, Boost is dedicated academic time where students build skills in reading, writing, and math skills. It’s also when K-5 youth meet with their one-on-one community volunteer Book Buddies who provide individualized support, and equally important, build meaningful relationships. These partnerships help strengthen confidence, create consistency, and remind each student they have someone in their corner.
To wrap up the day, it’s time for enrichment activities!
On this day, we had our longtime community partner Shelburne Farms bring the fun to us. Tortillas and salsa were on the menu using fresh ingredients right from the farm. From chopping and mixing to tasting and sharing, everyone played an important role in bringing the meal together.
Hands-on, joyful moments like this remind us how special it is to learn through food, teamwork, and creativity. We’re incredibly grateful for our friends at Shelburne Farms and the way they continue to bring these experiences to our youth!
And for Uriel? It’s all just part of another day at King Street Center.
Your support fuels these every day moments that bring joy and learning to our kids.
