Help King Street families put food on the table this weekend.
UPDATE 10/30: The outpouring of generosity from our community in 24 hours has been nothing short of amazing. You all filled our fridges, our tables, and our hearts.
Due to storage and fridge capacity limits, we are no longer accepting food donations, but still welcome support in purchasing grocery gift cards or donating to our Basic Needs Fund.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Dear Friends,
At this moment, many of our families do not know if they will have enough food to feed their children come Saturday. For us, the federal government shutdown is more than just a headline – it’s personal.
We know that Vermont is working hard to try to backfill what they can, but we also know it may not be enough or arrive in time.
95% of King Street Center families rely on SNAP benefits, and right now it is unclear whether they will be able to put food on the table this weekend.
This is where King Street – and you – step in. Today, King Street is handing out a $50 grocery gift card to every family to get them through the weekend.
You can help make every dollar go even farther by donating one of six staple food items in the next 24-48 hours. Simply purchase it and drop it off today or tomorrow at 87 King Street in Burlington between 9:00am and 5:00pm.
Here’s what’s most needed right now:
- Dried Beans
- Eggs
- Fresh or Frozen vegetables
- Milk
- White Rice
- Chicken
Each of these items helps ensure our families can begin the month with enough — enough to cook dinner, to nourish their children, and to breathe a little easier. If dropping off food isn’t possible, we invite you to contribute to our Basic Needs fund to help us purchase more grocery gift cards.
Please consider making a donation today or dropping off any of the items listed above to help King Street families start November with full plates and full hearts.
Together, we can ensure that while Washington debates, Burlington delivers — with compassion, community, and care.
With Gratitude,
Shabnam Nolan
