
Senior Director of Philanthrophy
Position Summary
This is a unique opportunity to shape and scale a development program for the next era of King Street’s growth. We are not seeking someone to run a well-oiled machine—we are seeking someone to build it. The Senior Director of Philanthropy will work closely with the Executive Director and Board to design and execute a multi-year strategy for increasing donor revenue, expanding our donor base, and strengthening the communications that connect our community to our mission.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position supervises the Director of Donor Engagement & Individual Giving and Director of Philanthropic Partnerships & Communications. The Senior Director will coach and support the team while ensuring performance benchmarks and goals are met.

Position Overview:
The Senior Director of Philanthropy works closely with the Executive Director and Board to design and execute a multi-year strategy for increasing donor revenue, expanding the donor base, and strengthening communications that connect our community to our mission. Additionally, the Senior Director of Philanthropy serves as an integral member of the senior leadership team, in helping set and guide the strategic vision and growth of the organization.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Planning
Develop and implement a multi-year fundraising and communications strategy aligned with organizational growth.
Identify opportunities and risks; develop contingency plans.
Partner with the Executive Director and Board to lead strategic fundraising initiatives.
Support the Executive Director with board of directors management
Act as primary staff liaison to board of directors and appropriately task and support board and executive director in achieving plan goals.
Serve as a thought partner to the senior leadership team (Executive Director, Senior Director of Programs, and Senior Director of Operations) with an eye towards 5-year strategic goals
Team Leadership & Culture Building
Supervise and mentor development and communications staff, ensuring alignment with quality measures, compliance goals, growth targets, and strategic initiatives.
Build and maintain a positive, inclusive, and accountable team culture.
Turn strategic goals into actionable steps and guide the team to implement those steps.
Oversee and support annual and long-term planning from start to finish, including developing processes, protocols, deadlines and milestones, while holding the team accountable to achieving goals.
Recruit and develop team members; plan for future growth.
Donor Engagement & Revenue Generation
Oversee success of donor pipeline, segmentation, stewardship, and campaign strategies.
Provide high-level oversight of major gifts (not the primary gift officer).
Provide high-level oversight of donor communications, annual appeals, events, and campaign messaging.
Hold your own portfolio of major donors.
Build and manage a growing portfolio of corporate partners through sponsorships and in-kind support, aligned with organizational needs and community values.
Oversee and support success of donor-related events
Systems & Operations
Oversee donor database integrity and reporting functions.
Evaluate and implement fundraising tools and platforms.
Ensure compliance, data tracking, and analysis support strategic decision-making.
Oversee development financials, including budgeting, revenue tracking, grant budgets, reporting to the board of directors, reconciliation, and other development financial-related tasks.
Develop policies, systems, and procedures, including internal communications, as it relates to the department that will improve day-to-day operations of the development and communication team.
Qualifications & Experience:
Experience:
Minimum 10 years in fundraising, nonprofit leadership, or related roles. Experience with fundraising for a $5 mil + organization preferred.
Minimum 5 years supervising a development team of at least 3 people, including director-level team members.
Demonstrated success growing a development program and scaling a team.
Experience managing major gifts, grants, and communications.
Familiarity with youth development or community-based organizations preferred.
Strategic planning, execution, team leadership, and capital campaign experience.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Strategic and Operational Leadership: Proven ability to set vision, build systems and programs from the ground up, manage complex projects, and oversee both strategic planning and day-to-day operations.
Fundraising & Financial Acumen: Deep knowledge of fundraising strategy and execution, including major gifts, individual giving, institutional support, donor databases, and budgeting/forecasting. Familiarity with ethical, equity-centered fundraising practices.
Communications & Storytelling: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including nonprofit storytelling, brand alignment, campaign messaging, and relationship-based donor engagement.
Team Leadership & Development: Demonstrated success in team supervision, delegation, coaching, and building an inclusive and accountable team culture.
Interpersonal & Adaptive Skills: Strong relationship-building, emotional intelligence, collaboration, time management, flexibility, and a creative, solutions-focused mindset—especially in change-oriented environments.
Data & Decision-Making: Skilled in using data to inform strategy, improve systems, and guide decision-making at both tactical and strategic levels.
Compliance Requirements: Must have a valid driver’s license and pass both a motor vehicle report and criminal background check.

Interacts with donors, the community at large, other agencies, vendors, and others as needed
Physical Requirements & Conditions of Work:
Position carried out primarily in a comfortable office setting. Regular local travel to offsite meetings required. Interaction with children and families who at times exhibit some instability in their behavior. Some potential for risks to physical safety and security of the facility.
Employment Details:
Salary range: $85,000-$110,000 / year
Schedule: Full-time, Exempt
Location: This is a primarily on-site position with the option of remote work 1-2 days per week after initial 90 days
